The University of Applied Sciences (UAS) (Państwowa Wyższa Szkoła Zawodowa w Tarnowie) was called into being as the first state university of applied sciences in Poland by the order of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Poland in May 1998. It is a higher education institution of a new type, educating its students at the first level („licentiate” / „bachelor”, „engineer”) or/and at the second level: „master”. It is the oldest Polish public university college.

The total number of students per year exceeds 4000. There are over 300 academic teachers employed, including around 100 professors and associate professors. It consists of 6 institutes and 20 departments with 32 specialisations. Experienced staff, coupled with modern learning facilities contribute to UAS’ success.

The teaching staff have considerable academic and research achievements and come from broad academic and professional backgrounds. The campus provides modern facilities for teaching, learning, laboratory research as well as recreation, including a sports hall and an indoor swimming pool.
